The short version
What visitors say about Empire Sportsmen Association
Empire Sportsmen Association is a card room on McHenry Avenue at Kiernan in Modesto, and it has no bar. It pours soft drinks at low prices, keeps some food out for players, and the room stays calmer and more polite than places that serve alcohol. Staff get unusually warm reviews, and players describe it as clean, with a large, well lit parking lot. The action is blackjack style games and baccarat with no machines of any kind, and a couple of regulars brag about hitting seven and eight card busts.
Losing players write most of the complaints, describing long cold streaks against the bank. Several also say there are times when only one blackjack table is open, usually full, and point to the card rooms in Turlock, Manteca or Tracy instead.
