Tennis betting: match, set and game markets
Tennis betting starts with the match winner, but the score structure (points, games, sets) makes room for markets on the set score, game handicaps and total games. Surface and match length change how often favorites win. Here is how each market works and settles, with a calculator to price set betting.

Tennis betting markets and how they settle
| Market | What you bet on | How it settles |
|---|---|---|
| Match winnerNo vig calculator | Which player wins the match. | If a player retires, sportsbooks follow their own rules: some pay out once a set is completed, others void. |
| Set bettingTennis set betting calculator | The exact score in sets, such as 2-0 or 3-1. | Higher prices than the match winner because the score has to be exact. |
| Set handicapTennis set betting calculator | A player starts with a handicap in sets, such as -1.5. | A -1.5 set handicap wins only on a straight sets win. |
| Game handicap | A handicap on the total games won by each player across the match. | Counts games, not sets, so a player can lose the match and still cover. |
| Total games | Games played in the match above or below a line. | Close matches and tiebreaks push totals up; one sided matches pull them down. |
| Total setsTennis set betting calculator | Whether a match goes to a deciding set. | Over 2.5 sets in a best of 3 match wins when it goes to a third set. |
| First set winner | Who wins the opening set. | Settled after the first set, so later retirements usually don't affect it. |
Settlement rules are the usual ones in US sportsbooks. Each sportsbook publishes its own rules, and those decide your bet.

Common questions
What happens to tennis bets if a player retires?
Rules differ between sportsbooks. Some void match bets unless the match was completed, others settle once one set is completed, and markets already decided (like the first set winner) usually stand. Check the rules before you bet.
Why do Grand Slam matches favor the favorite more?
Men's Grand Slam singles are best of 5 sets, so a stronger player has more time to come back from a bad set. The same per set edge turns into a bigger match winning chance, which the set betting calculator shows.
What is the difference between set and game handicaps?
A set handicap counts sets won; a game handicap counts every game won across the match. A player who loses 7-6 6-7 6-7 loses 2 sets to 1 but won 19 games to 20, so a +1.5 game handicap still covers.
Is tennis betting legal in the US?
Where sports betting is legal in the US, tennis is a standard market. Each state sets its own rules and age limits, so check where you are.
