The model treats every set as independent with the same chance, which real matches are not: serve, fatigue and momentum all matter. Use it as a fair price starting point, not a forecast. If a player retires, sportsbooks settle set markets by their own rules.

Calculations show hypothetical outcomes from the prices you enter. They do not predict results, and betting always involves risk.

How it works

If a player wins each set with chance p, the chance of winning a best of 3 match is p² x (3 minus 2p), and a best of 5 match p³ x (10 minus 15p plus 6p²). The calculator solves that backwards from the no vig match chance, then lists every set score.

Example: a -200 / +170 match has a no vig chance of 64.3% for the favorite. In a best of 3 match that equals a 59.6% chance per set (this model gives 64.3% for the match, as it should), so 2-0 is 35.6% (fair +181) and 2-1 is 28.7% (fair +248).

Totals and handicaps from the same numbers

Over 2.5 sets wins when a best of 3 match goes the distance, which is the sum of the 2-1 and 1-2 chances. A -1.5 set handicap wins only on a straight sets win. Both are shown under the set score table.

Common questions

What is set betting in tennis?

A bet on the exact score in sets, for example 2-0 or 2-1 in a best of 3 match. It pays more than the match winner because you have to get the score right as well as the winner.

How does the calculator get set chances from match odds?

It removes the margin from the match odds, then finds the chance of winning a single set that would produce that match chance if every set were independent. From that one number it works out every set score.

Is the model accurate?

It is a simplification. Real sets are not independent: serve dominance, fatigue, injuries and momentum all matter, and a set chance changes during the match. Treat the output as a fair price starting point, not a forecast.

What happens to set bets if a player retires?

It depends on the sportsbook. Some void the bet unless the market was already decided, others settle once a set or the match is completed. Check the rules before betting.
