The short version
The Artesian is less a casino than a restored landmark hotel in downtown Sulphur with a gaming floor attached, and nearly every review is about the stay. The building wins admiration from the street, and couples come back for the spa, a set of linked hot tubs with a waterfall and a large pool with indoor and outdoor sections. Front desk and shop staff draw steady compliments.
The rooms are the sore point. Guests paying suite prices describe worn furniture, stained carpet, weak water pressure and hard mattresses, and some found housekeeping lapses on arrival. Dining hours are unpredictable: the main restaurant was closed for days over a gas leak during several recent stays, and late guests have found the kitchen shut and the bar closing early. The casino is small, with blackjack alongside the machines, and a couple of visitors noticed cigarette smoke drifting through the building.

Our room really needed another chair. There was plenty of room for one more and it would have made all the difference in our two days stay. Our room had a very large shower. The air return vent was very very loud.
