Don Laughlin's Riverside was the first hotel in town, and it still packs a lot under one roof: bowling, movie theaters, an arcade for kids, a spa, live shows and a car museum. Some river view rooms in the towers have balconies over the water. A couple on their first visit this spring praised dinners at the Gourmet Room and at the Prime Rib Room, the friendly blackjack dealers and their front row seats at a tribute show.

The hotel shows its age. Reviewers describe dusty rooms, dirty carpets and windows, and beds that sag or feel lopsided, and the buffet and the Riverside restaurant draw more complaints than praise. Families were frustrated when pools closed for wind or a private party. Several guests found staff short with newcomers, and two objected to housekeeping entering their rooms uninvited. A resort fee applies.
