Your open bet and the hedge

Odds format
$60.00hedge stake for the same result either way
$20.00profit if the original bet wins
$20.00profit if the hedge wins
$30.00hedge stake that only gets your original stake back

Hedging trades upside for certainty: you give up part of the original win to secure a result either way. The hedge price carries its own margin, so the locked result is lower than it would be at fair odds. Check that the two bets settle the same way (overtime, voids) before relying on it.

Calculations show hypothetical outcomes from the prices you enter. They do not predict results, and betting always involves risk.

Examples

  • $20 at +400 (pays $100), other side at -150: hedge $60.00 and both outcomes leave +$20.00.
  • A $10 parlay at +600 (pays $70) with one leg left, opposing price -200: hedge $46.67 for +$13.33 either way, or $20.00 just to get the $10 back if the parlay loses.

The two stakes the calculator shows

Equal profit: potential payout / hedge decimal odds. Break even: original stake / (hedge decimal odds minus 1), the smallest hedge that returns your stake if the original loses. Enter your own hedge stake to see anything in between.

Common questions

What does hedging a bet mean?

Betting on the opposite outcome of a bet you already have, to lock in a profit or reduce a loss whatever happens.

How do I hedge a parlay?

Before the last leg, bet against it. Enter the parlay stake and its combined odds as the original bet and the opposing price of the last leg as the hedge.

What is the equal profit hedge?

The hedge stake that makes both outcomes pay the same: original potential payout divided by the hedge's decimal odds.

Is hedging always a good idea?

Not in value terms: the hedge pays the sportsbook's margin a second time. It trades expected value for certainty, which can still be what you want.
