The Golden Nugget's best asset is its address. Its neighbor across the street is Tahoe Blue Events Center, so plenty of guests book a room for a concert or a hockey game and walk over. Rooms that have been remodeled, including those in the Sunset Tower, are described as clean and new, and the steakhouses do well: Saltgrass and Mastro's both earned praise for food and service.

The front desk is where stays went wrong. Several reviewers arrived to find a reservation canceled or a different room type than the one they paid for, and describe staff who offered little help. Others were caught off guard by a resort fee and a parking charge added to the rate, even on comped rooms. Renovation is uneven, too: guests in rooms still waiting their turn reported loose faucets, dirty tubs and air conditioning that ran too hot or too cold.
