The short version
The Cal has long been the Vegas home base for visitors from Hawaii, and the reviews still show it. Guests come for the oxtail soup and the Hawaiian dishes in the restaurants, and a couple mention meeting plenty of fellow islanders. The hotel sits a block off Fremont Street, close enough to walk and far enough that the canopy noise mostly fades. The casino is calmer than the ones on Fremont, and rooms get good marks for size, cleanliness and comfortable beds.
Service is uneven. Plenty of guests find the staff warm and welcoming, while others describe a rude front desk and requests that went nowhere. Broken elevators come up more than once, and one guest helped an elderly man down 13 floors of stairs. A couple of people had noise trouble anyway, from the gym next door in one case and passing trains in another.

I liked it. Clean nice king size room. A few lights were out is all. The music from Fremont st experience can be heard. Not bad though. And the experience is very fun. I took the Deuce $8 a day bus to the strip. Had a very nice time. The people are nice. Free parking.

In Vegas, on bid'ness didn't stay at the hotel, but the rooms r nice. Hadta go eat at Aloha specialties upstairs food is absolutely incredible! Picked up a couple good snacks in the 808 store across the way highly recommended.

We had a great time at the California Hotel. The premium room was very comfortable and the food selections were awesome. The famous oxtail soup was very delicious. A lot of guests from Hawaii. We will definitely be back! Aloha!

The cal is my usual go to, but this time we got put in a room next to the fitness center! Weights dropping and banging, we heard every bit of it…. A/C makes a tapping noise every hour and running toilet and great view of the roof. Also

Parents stayed in room 2140 from 06/28/26 to 07/06/26 and my dad left his gold chain that my mom bought for him in the 90’s . He couldn’t find them before checking out but he knows where he put it before they went to dinner on 4th of July.

Location is good since you don’t get the Fremont street noise, you do however get some train noise. Rooms are typical Boyd (3.5*, very comfortable and above avg), however the service is definitely not up to Boyd (Fremont and Delta Downs) standards. I hate to post bad things.... but this should never happen. I checked in California Hotel in Las Vegas March 17th staying 4 nights. Once in my room.... I went to take a shower and noticed used towel on back of door in the bathroom....hello
