The short version

What visitors say about Golden Nugget Atlantic City Hotel, Casino & Marina

Golden Nugget is on the marina side of Atlantic City, away from the Boardwalk, and fans like it for being calmer and cheaper than the beachfront hotels. The casino floor stays lively, with a live band and an outdoor bar, and the seafood and steak restaurants are favorites for special occasions, even if some entrees feel overpriced. Valet and many front desk workers get warm thanks.

Most of the anger is aimed at the hotel. Guests describe dated rooms with dust, stained or torn sheets and slow drains, and walls thin enough to hear a neighbor's shower. A couple of nonsmoking rooms smelled of smoke, and the casino strikes some as smoky. Reviewers also resent the extra charges, such as a fee for checking in minutes early and deposits or card holds that took weeks to sort out. Early in the week few restaurants stay open into the evening.

I reserved a Luxury Room with two queen beds, but when we arrived, we were told there were no rooms available with that configuration, so we had no choice but to take a room with one king bed.

The walls are incredibly thin. We could hear everything—from people partying next door to someone taking a shower. The room…
