The short version
The Rio's selling point has always been room size. Guests describe big rooms with a couch and space to spread out, often for well under Strip prices, and the renovated Ipanema tower gets real praise. Parking is free. There's a busy slate of shows, and between the food hall and the sit down restaurants you can eat well without leaving the building. It sits a short drive west of the Strip on Flamingo.
Operations are the problem right now. Elevators come up again and again: guests describe most cars out of service, waits of half an hour or more, and people giving up and taking the stairs. Check in lines run long, the kiosks don't always work, and the phone system is automated and rarely reaches a person. Three reviewers were billed a smoking fee after nonsmoking stays, $500 in two cases, and two say comped rooms were charged anyway.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rio! The remodeled rooms are a great improvement—comfortable, clean, and nicely updated.
