Virgin took over the old Hard Rock on Paradise Road, a short drive from the Strip. It's clean, quiet and rarely crowded, and the casino is far less smoky than the big Strip floors. Food is the strongest suit. Reviewers single out the Mexican restaurant, the pizza place and the breakfast buffet. There are multiple pools, one with sand in it, and parking is free.

Where Virgin loses people is in fixing things once they go wrong. Several guests who left items in a room or lost them on the property describe weeks of calls and no resolution, and one found food and minibar charges on the bill they never ran up. Others grumble about extra charges such as the resort fee and a fee for a fridge, pools that close early, and rooms that wouldn't cool down. A couple thought the carpets look tired.
